Rare duck seen in Waiwhetu Stream

A rare Brown teal (Anas chlorotis), or pateke, was recently spotted on Waiwhetu stream which had flown in from Zealandia in Karori. Maybe it is a sign of things to come as Waiwhetu starts to regain its health, and Zealandia manages to bring species back from the brink of extinction. Maybe we can expect more visits from unique species in future. Lets hope so.

Water conservation in the pipeline?

It is great to see that capacity is fixing water leaks, but we could be doing so much more to conserve water, and save residents the cost of a $142 million dam.

How shall we split the bill?

Unless someone is feeling particularly flush, this question can be quite awkward. But I didn’t have any wine. I only had one course.

Hutt City councillors questioning how to split the bill for the Waiwhetu stream clean up is threatening to leave a sour taste in the mouth, instead of celebrating what a wonderful achievement completing this project has been.

Keep Waiwhetu Stream Clean

At the public walk recently, and was very proud of the work that has happened removing decades of toxic sludge from the Waiwhetu Stream. While the glamorous, high cost work is almost done, we now need to do the monotonous, low profile work of keeping the stream clean. Or else history will repeat and our children will also need to fork out money, the same as we did.
